DWR Archery Class @ Shotgun Range - 9AM-3PM - Limited Availability

Club members Lynn and Wendy Hyde are offering an Introduction to Archery Workshop at RPRC on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 9 am – 3 pm.

The workshop is a partnership program between RPRC and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (VDWR). The lead instructor, Michael Norkus (US Army, Retired), is a Master DWR Hunter Education instructor, and one of only two Master International Bowhunter Education Program (IBEP) Instructor-Trainers in Virginia. He is also the recipient of the 2018 International Hunter Education Association-USA (IHEA-USA) Volunteer Instructor of the Year (National) and received Virginia’s William Dixon Morgan award for excellence in hunter education.

Registration for the 12-seat class is offered exclusively to RPRC members through April 15. Any remaining seats after that date will be open to the public. To get a private link to register, email Wendy Hyde (girlscanhunt@gmail.com) with your name, email address, and phone number. Direct all questions to Wendy or Lynn (lynnhyde429@yahoo.com).

Class Description: Archery is a great skill for people of all ages, is a family-friendly activity, and provides year-round opportunities to practice and shoot. This workshop introduces the shooting fundamentals, equipment, and diversity that archery provides for recreational target shooting and hunting. No previous experience is required. All equipment is provided by the DWR; students with their own bows and arrows are encouraged to bring them. Traditional and recurve bows only (no crossbows permitted)

A short classroom session will be followed by several hours of live-fire beginning with sight-in practice on traditional bullseye targets followed by fun shooting at 3-D targets at various distances. Class concludes with a discussion on the many types of activities available for archery shooting, hunting, and competition.

Registrants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the entire class. (Parents that will supervise a minor do not have to register but must coordinate with the lead instructor.)
